Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and Eli Riedel, who operates Scroll Art ("we", "us"). By taking the art personality quiz, creating an account, starting a trial, or using the app or website, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Scroll Art.

1. What Scroll Art is

Scroll Art is a membership app for looking at paintings: a personalized feed of works from museum open-access collections, short facts and story videos about them, a daily painting, collections, comments, and the ability to follow other members and artists.

2. Membership and free trial

Membership is required to use the app beyond the quiz and onboarding. It is sold as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription.
Free trial. New members get a 7-day free trial. You can cancel at any time during the trial and pay nothing. If you don't cancel, the subscription starts automatically when the trial ends. One trial per person.
Buying in the app. Payment is charged to your Apple ID. The subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it in your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple under Apple's terms.
Buying on the website. Payment is processed by Stripe. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancel from "Manage subscription" in the app's Settings or by emailing us. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. We don't give partial refunds for unused time, except where the law requires it.
Prices are shown before you buy and may change; we'll give you notice before a change affects a renewal.
One membership, everywhere. A membership bought on the website works in the app and vice versa, once you sign in with the same account.

3. Your account

You must be at least 13 years old.
Keep your sign-in details private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
One account per person. Don't share a membership.
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription by itself: cancel it first (see above) or you may continue to be charged.

4. Community rules

Comments, replies, usernames, display names, bios, and collection names are yours, and you give us a license to show them in Scroll Art. In return:

Don't post anything hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, violent, illegal, deceptive, or spam.
Don't impersonate anyone or post things you don't have the right to share.
Don't try to break, scrape, or overload the service, or use it for anything other than personal enjoyment of art.

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive members. We use automated filters and human review. We may remove content, restrict features, or close accounts that break these rules, without a refund of the current period. You can report any comment or member from inside the app, and block anyone; we review reports within 24 hours and act on them.

5. The paintings and text

Every painting in Scroll Art was released by its museum as public domain or CC0, so you may use those images freely under the museum's terms. Descriptive text comes from the museums or from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0) and is credited where shown. Some short facts and story narrations are written from that source text with the help of AI; we check them, but they may contain errors, and they should not be relied on as scholarly reference. The Scroll Art name, design, quiz, personalities, and our own writing and videos are ours.

6. Availability and changes

We work to keep Scroll Art running, but we don't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may add, change, or remove features. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will refund any prepaid period that remains.

7. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

Scroll Art is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law gives you and that cannot be waived.

8. Apple

If you use the app on an Apple device, these additional terms apply: this agreement is between you and us, not Apple; Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance; Apple is not responsible for any claims relating to the app; and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also comply with Apple's App Store terms.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Hays County, Texas, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Scroll Art after that means you accept the new terms.
